The nine-seed Michigan State Spartans face the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.
Kansas dispatched the 16-seed UC Davis Aggies on Friday, 100-62, in the first round. Five Jayhawks scored in double-digits, led by Frank Mason III with 22.
Mason averages 20.8 points per game. Detroit native Josh Jackson averages 16.4 points per game, scored 17 against the Aggies and averages 7.4 rebounds. Landen Lucas leads the Jayhawks on the boards with 8.5 rebounds per game and also scores 8.1 points.
Michigan State’s freshmen came to play in a 78-58 rout of the eight-seed Miami Hurricanes in their first round matchup on Friday. Nick Ward led the Spartans with 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Miles Bridges scored 18 points and led Michigan State with nine rebounds.
